Notes from this weekend’s convo w/CC:

* session() in php uses disk and is bad for horizontal scaling - done!

* javascript auto advance to next video in channel - done and I have used this feature already.

* popout player - I would love a popout player.  The problem with video sites: either you lose the video you’re watching when you try to explore, or, the site is entirely in Flash and browsing sucks.  Popup player is an excellent solution that radio stations and audio sites have used with great success, but no one has done this well on an HTML/js video site. Be the first to execute this well.  I think popout video player will be huge and others will copy it.

* Both popout player and javascript auto advance are tools that help me leanback.  I consume video while brushing my teeth, cooking, eating (alone :(… ).  I can’t be advancing to next video.  You guys have a good start on the lean back tools.  Who else is providing a good lean back online video experience?

* Take a look at hypem for some great features / analogies to learn from. They are audio, but they are also a media station with an HTML/js (not Flash) driven site with a pretty solid user experience.  One of my comments on a previous post has a screenshot of a really nice tabbed view on my dashboard that breaks down my activity on the site.

Also, I added authorship notes to the tumblr, so hopefully it’s more clear what’s going on here and who’s saying what.

Very interesting—Zemanta is cool.  Here’s an article it suggested that I insert.  Not a great read, but I like this Zemanta thing a lot.
